Compact beam expanders that do not sacrifice laser beam diameter
Beam expanders are required in most laser systems to change the diameter of the incoming source to match the requirement of the optical system. In size restricted applications, it is desirable to use a compact beam expander but in most cases a compact beam expander is only suitable for small diameter beams. In material processing and lithography, where a very small spot is needed on target, it often requires a large diameter beam into the focusing optic which is typically an F-Theta lens.
The advanced optical design and quality of optics of Geomatec beam expanders accommodates a larger beam than other compact beam expanders of a similar size. All Geomatec beam expanders have a mounting diameter of 25 mm which assures interchangeability. Depending on the magnification, Geomatec beam expanders have an output beam of up to 20 mm! This large diameter beam can allow focusing down to a very small diffraction limited spot on the target. A small spot can provide very high energy density for material processing as well as fine detail for micromachining or lithography.
Further, the Geomatec beam expanders give > 98% light transmission which is very important in high power systems. These qualities are among the reason why Geomatec is the leading supplier of beam expanders in Japan and a major supplier of F-Theta lenses as well.
