Calculator for speed of polygon scanner / polygon scan head & laser pulse rate required
This calculator makes it easy to compute polygon scanner / polygon scan head scan rate, speed of spot on the target and then compute the needed laser pulse rate based on spot size and required overlap. POLYGON SCANNER CALCULATOR
Plug in the number of facets and the RPM of the polygon mirror as well as the scan length in mm. Now the scan speed in meters per second is calculated. Then, put in the spot size on target and the desired spot overlap. The required laser pulse rate is shown in Hz, KHz and MHz. The calculator allows comparison of 24 different sets of variables.
When considering spot overlap, keep in mind that a Gaussian beam may not give optimum use of the laser energy. A refractive beam shaper can produce a top hat, donut of other more efficient beam profile. BEAM SHAPING
Ultrafast, also known as Ultra Short Pulse (USP) lasers have very high pulse rates, up into the MHz region for material processing. Galvanometer (galvo) scanners are not fast enough to take advantage of the MHz speed of these lasers. Polygon scanners / Polygon Scan Heads are typically required for MHz rate high speed laser scanning.
Precision Laser Scanning is dedicated to providing polygon scanners and the specialized optics needed to build a Polygon Scan Heads. This includes:
Polygon Scanners
Start Of Scan (SOS) Detection
F-Theta Lenses
Beam Expanders
Beam Shaping
